ARMY OF THE LIVING DEAD

So the basic story of the video is this; A group of Vampires has left Earth in the Late Middle Ages and established a civilization on a distant planet. The Architecture of this civilization is based on Medieval France and Belgium, as this was once the homeworld of these Vampires. The Vampire Planet has a permanent red fog that contains simple life forms that the Vampires absorb into their bodies, thus sustaining their lives.

At some point the Vampire Empress decides to sent an invasion force back to Earth to conquer it. So four space craft leave for Earth. The take with them a plague that will cause humans to die and return as zombies. They travel through the Timewarp Vortex, and arrive on Earth on the German/Russian front in 1942. Soon soldiers on both sides are dying of the plague and being reanimated as the Living Dead.

Eventually the whole of Eurasia is engulfed in a apocalyptic firestorm and only the Undead Zombies are left.

The video ends with the Vampire Commander arriving in New York Harbour, taking the plague to the New World.

For the Video I played the part of one of the Zombies, and my son Leon plays another Zombie, The lyrics are banal and pointless because based on what the Zombies might actually be thinking, and they are supposed to be blood crazed killers.

This video has no moral or political value, it's just a rock video. It took an eternity to make (the video took about a hundred times as long as the recording and writing of the actual song). The video is available in various sizes and formats below.

DEMONICA

This was the most ambitious video project that I had done to date. As I have limited funds and cannot afford sets, lighting actors etc. I was forced to create most of the footage in the computer.

Firstly I created a virtual stage in dark basic code, so that I could capture scenes from different angles using a virtual camera. I first sketched out the design and then wrote the code.

The next stage was to create the main character "Demonica", I used Poser software to do this and kept it basic, as I am not that familiar yet with modifying skins and polygons etc. (yet). I decided to base her on the central character from the film "Lifeforce", She is naked for several reasons, firstly, I knew that the animation would look more realistic, as the movement of cloth is quite complex, and is very difficult to get right, secondly Demonica is a very sexual being, thirdly, I wanted her to appear timeless, giving her clothes would date her to a particular era or place. There is the option in poser to remove the genitals, but I kept them in for realism, and censorship can at time appear a little silly.

Once I had decided on the model for the character, I began the animation process, originally I created movie files with a green screen background, so that I could put on a different background, but I found that the results were not that hot, so I used copyright free images from Dark Matter, which is an add-on you can get for Dark Basic. I also bought a picture of the moon from istockphoto.com which I modified for different scenes.

The animation was extremely time consuming, and each second took about two hours. The only help was the built-in walk-animator in poser. I found that animating the lights within each sequence added excitement and atmosphere to the clip.

I used two basic models, a face and a body, the face was much harder to animate, but it did allow for a more realistic character, with moving mouth and eyes.

I also exported the body model as a .3ds file into Dark Basic and scrolled a lava texture that I had changed from red to blue. This gave added movement to the rather static scenes from the Dark Basic program that I had written.

I was originally going to have the video without myself in it, but thought that it seemed a little lacking. So I shot myself against a green screen (card from Boots the Chemist, Blue-tacked to the wall), I then played all of the guitar and bass parts and joined them together.

I then did the singing part and laid it in top.

And the then you have the whole band, I stretched the film of the guitarist and singer , and wore different clothes to give the impression, that they are not all the same person, but imperfect clones. I was going to change my hairstyle for each character, but I ran out of time as I only had one hour free to do the lot, So it looks a bit like the Sid Vicious (as an old man) Clone Army of the Sith. I actually found the result hysterical when I first saw it, even now it looks really comical.

I don't know about you but I really don't like the look of video, film is much better, and old film looks the best, so I made all of the video look like Pathé film footage, I added grain and contrast, and old film effect, I also shot some with smoke, the smoke obscures most of the detail and really gives that 1944 feel to whole scene, I was really pleased with this and felt that it was the perfect contrast to the computer animation part of the video.

So there you have it, not perfect, but then it's not supposed to be. The only real regrets are the lack of time and the lack of quality, but I am getting a modern computer soon and and ready to begin work on the INKUBUS SUKKUBUS video for "Lady Geneva"

I hope you like the video, Cheers!

PLACE of the DEAD

There is now available, a downloadable and streamable video for the VAMPIRE DIVISION track ''Place of the Dead''. It is available in different formats and sizes, The video includes footage from the Mother of all Zombie films "George A Romero's - Night of the Living Dead", also included is footage from the 1929 Classic Horror flick "Phantom of the Opera", the seminal Vincent Price movie "House on Haunted Hill" and the little know B-movie "Mesa of Lost Women". This is a homemade video, so don't expect too much, but given the resources available I think that it is not too bad. The best way to deal with these files is to right click and save target as, but if you have a really fast connection you can just click and play.
